THE HONG KONG UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: Associate Dean in charge of the Kellogg-HKUST Executive MBA program, Director of the Saudi Aramco MBA program and Academic Head of the Moscow School of Management, SKOLKOVO-HKUST Project.
From 1996 to 2012, Dr. DeKrey served as Senior Associate Dean, Director of Masters Programs, and Adjunct Professor of Management (reappointed in 2016) at the Hong Kong Univers ity of Science and Technology (HKUST) School of Business and Management. While at HKUST, the MBA program he directed was ranked in the top 10 worldwide and the EMBA Program number one in the world by the Financial Times, 6 times. He also developed and taught three MBA leadership classes achieving highest honors on teaching evaluations. He repeated this success with a Global Leadership course in 2016. In 2015, Dr. DeKrey received an Honorary Fellowship from the Council at HKUST for his exceptional service to the University.
ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT: Dr. Dekrey completed a three-year term as President of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in the Philippines in 2015. He served as CEO of the Board of Trustees and President of the Conference Center Hotels while at AIM. While serving as President he oversaw a successful reaccreditation, improved the quality of faculty and students, finalized membership in the GMAC, started a Beta Gama Sigma chapter as founding President, raised funds and named the Development School after a highly significant honor and oversaw the first international recruitment of a world class Dean who with his recommendation became the first female President of AIM.
THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA: Dr. Dekrey served as Director of MBA programs for The University of Florida (UF) from 1989 to 1995. He also co-taught several undergraduate classes in strategy and an honor's class in leadership receiving teacher ratings among the top 10% of all faculty members.
NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY: From 1983 to 1989 Dr. Dekrey served as Assistant Dean and Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Kellogg School of Management, contributing to their #1 in the US ranking. In 1988 he was appointed an assistant professor and achieved Honour Roll status for his teacher/course ratings.
CONSULTING/ ADVISORY
Steven J. DeKrey was a part time Consultant with IMPEL CONSULUTING based in Hong Kong. He served as a trainer for leadership development, business school and NGO management and independent non-executive board director workshop.
Dr. DeKrey is well known in Asia as a leadership expert. His former and current consulting and training clients include several Asian American Chambers, many Rotary Clubs, The Bank of China, ExxonMobil, the Financial Times, Global Executive Solutions Group, Goldman Sachs Pine Street, GMAC, Jardine Matheson, MTR Co, Gammon, PepsiCo, Southern Fund China, UBS, JP Morgan, FedEx, John Clements, Rustan's Department Stores and Wal-Mart, China.
Dr. DeKrey was appointed an Independent Non-Executive Director of the board and member of the audit committee of KESORAM, a billion dollar public company founded in Kolkata by BK Birla.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Dr. Dekrey has remained active in the community throughout his career. While in Hong Kong he was a member of the board of Governors for the AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE serving as Chairman in 2008, and was the first and only academic to become Chairman. In 2016 he served as Chairman of the President Search Committee and Host of the AmCham Chairman’s inaugural event in 2017. Since 2008 he has also served as a Trustee of the AmCham Charitable Foundation. He has been a leader of many organizations during his career including alumni clubs, Rotary Clubs, Chamber Orchestras and business organizations. He co-chaired the first Asia Wide Kellogg Alumni Advisory Council.
Dr. DeKrey joined ROTARY in 1994 in the US. Dr. Dekrey became a Paul Harris Fellow in 1995. President Dekrey rejoined Rotary in Hong Kong after moving there in 1996. He joined the Rotary Club of Kowloon serving as its president in 2000. The following year (2001) he served as Chairman of the District Scholarship Committee. He transferred to the mixed gender Rotary Club of Hong Kong in 2003, serving on the board as Vice President in 2005. In Manila he joined the Rotary Club of Manila serving as program co-director and a member of the “World Famous” Coral. In 2009, Dr. DeKrey became a major donor to Rotary International. Dr. Dekrey rejoined the Rotary Club of Hong Kong in 2016 and was a keynote speaker in 2017.
EDUCATION
Dr. DeKrey obtained his PhD degree in School and Sport Psychology from the University of Iowa, his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, MS in School Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, and a BA degree (cum laude) in Psychology from Minnesota State-Bemidji. He was named "most outstanding alumni" by Minnesota State in 2000.
