Maxim Akimov is Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. In 2004 he was Minister of Economic Development of the Kaluga Region. From 2007 to 2012 he held the position of Deputy Governor of the Kaluga Region. In 2018 it was known that the first deputy head of the Cabinet of Ministers Maxim Akimov would be responsible for the digitalization of the economy along with communication issues. In 2018, he was appointed the deputy prime minister of the government. Maxim Akimov supervises the implementation of the national program "Digital Economy" and the national project for the creation of safe and high-quality roads. He is responsible for transport, communication, innovation, issues related to real estate and intellectual property. Maxim is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSCo «Russian Railways» since 2018.
