Mr. Merenzon was born in 1976 in Chelyabinsk, Russia. He graduated from
Chelyabinsk State University with a degree in
History and Sociology. Received MBA in
International Business at New York Pace
University and a Ph.D. in Economics from
New School University.
Mr. Merenzon has developed RUXX, an index
that tracks Russian stocks traded on Western exchanges. The index was calculated by Dow Jones and served as a major economic indicator for Russia. Mr. Merenzon has been a professor of Economics at the New York State
University. He also worked in New York City
Merenzon was the founder of “Public Space”, a successful communication practice in New
York City. He worked with clients such as The New York Times, New York Stock Exchange, and Western Union.
In cooperation with Andrew Paulson, creator of the Afisha magazine, Mr. Merenzon founded the Russia! magazine. This award-wining magazine was a career-booster for many journalists who currently determine the view of Russia all over the world.
In 2014, Merenzon became the CEO of World Chess (previously ‘Agon), which was accorded long-term commercial rights for the World Chess Championship cycle — the main events for chess. During his tenure, Merenzon helped to popularize the sport, developed successful digital revolution of chess, oversaw rebranding of the game and organized several record-breaking events, including the World Chess Championship Match in New York City, which was called a sporting event of the year.
Under Merenzon’s stewardship, World Chess signed biggest media rights deals in history of chess and major sponsorship contracts, as popularity of chess grew.
In 2016, Merenzon became a co-founder of the INC Russia magazine, one of the most
successful media ventures in Russia.
