Transportation development revolution. Will digitalization and greening lead to business model changes?

The world technological trends show shrinks of investment in traditional technologies and the focus on so called breakthrough technologies like electric mobility, connectivity, autonomy in different transportation fields. Technologies transform both the business model and society. For example, according to the White House report, in the USA about 1,7 million truck drivers will experience job losses due to the unmanned technologies.
Transportation sector in large cities is responsible for 90% of total air pollution. Only comprehensive introduction of sustainable development principles can address the immediate crisis and deal with its main cause: the predominance of transport with internal combustion engine (ICE).
Recently, the megacities have faced with the problem of a rapid growth in the number of motor vehicles, while the construction of road infrastructure cannot keep pace with transportation means growth. This results in in traffic speed reduction and occurrence of congestion. All this leads to infective and unsustainable use of transport.
Technology development like energy storage, autonomous driving, remote monitoring of equipment, optimized planning of transportation flows and use of transport – all this should define the business model for transport of the future.
